Whenever you go to a company website, visit your favorite brand online, or even check out a celebrity’s site, there is almost always some sort of blog. It may just be a rehash of news, or it may be something you find incredibly useful. Either way, in today’s information-crazed world, many people look to blogs to get the info they want. Therefore, it goes without saying that you too can maintain a solid personal brand by blogging.
Here are some other reasons why you can (and should) blog:
Increase your online presence. How you are perceived by a searcher online is extremely important, whether you are job searching or not. By blogging a few times a week, you not only increase the likelihood that your online presence will be seen as positive, but also the chances that you actually show up in search engines. After all, the more content you have out there, the better chance you have of getting found.
Become a thought leader. Let’s start by noting that becoming a thought leader doesn’t happen overnight. Like everything else, it takes a lot of work, patience, and perhaps many errors before you can say you have this type of leadership role within your industry. However, one way you can establish yourself is by blogging. Think about it: Most thought leaders have an active blog presence, posting content at least three times a week. Further, if you actually have an interest in a particular industry, creating appealing content that people will want to read won’t be difficult. In fact, creating this kind of content will be what makes you a thought leader in the first place.
Get referenced. Once you’ve created a quality blog with a pretty active posting schedule, you’ll probably get more visitors coming to your site. More often than not, you’ll likely get linked in Twitter posts, Facebook updates, or even in other blogs. Why is this good? Well, besides improving your personal brand, it also improves your SEO, which increases your chances of getting found through a search engine. And, of course, the more people who know who you are, the better your personal brand will be.
